about

ELIXIR was originally released on Interchill Records (Canada) & One World Music (Australia). This album (Kaya Project's second release following the success of the debut album WALKING THROUGH) is now available through Tribal Shift Records. It was the culmination of a year traveling the globe in search of fresh recordings . Seb Taylor and Natasha Chamberlain spent the majority of this trip in India, specifically Rajasthan, where they met and recorded many of the musicians who ended up on the album.

taken from the original Interchill press release:

"Built on a solid framework of intricate and funky tribal percussion, each cut on the album seamlessly blends diverse musical instrumentation with warm bass lines and modern arrangement and creates a deeply captivating listening experience. Additional acoustic support comes from such talent as Irina Mikhailova (one of the original Kaya Project collaborators), Omar Faruk Tekbilek, Deepak Pandit, Ghasi Ram Bhopa, Sabiha Khan & many more."

Deepak Pandit (Violin) and Sabiha Khan (Vocals) are the Bollywood musicians that were introduced to Seb and Natasha after Seb produced & engineered a track for Johnny Kalsi (Afro Celt Sound System) back in Seb’s London studio.
After Seb mentioned that he was looking for some amazing Indian violin performances Johnny introduced him to Salim and Suliman Merchant, the world renowned Bollywood producers. Through Salim the studio session was arranged in Mumbai & some truly magical performances were recorded. Both Deepak & Sabiha can be heard in full effect on the track ‘Raag To Ragga’, as well as several other Kaya Project tracks. During a prolonged stay in Mumbai Seb & Natasha also recorded the Bansuri flute for ‘65 Percent’ (as played by Hayat Mohammed) as well as the Vocals for 'The Flow' as sung by Flo Comment. Flo is a French musician who spends much of her time in India honing her brilliant Vocal skills under the tutelage of classical Indian singers.

This melting pot of musicians culminated in the track 'One God Dub' which features many musicians of as many different faiths as it was possible to include. The Various religions represented by the players within this single track include Judaism, Islam & Catholicism, as well as performers from the Shinto, Buddhist, Hindu & Sikh communities. In total the separate recordings from 8 different sessions were combined here as one harmonious whole.

Like all Kaya Project Albums the original artwork is a painting by Welsh artist Suzanne Brady entitled ‘The Abyss’.
